What is The Human Archive?
The Human Archive is a simple, biography recording app that helps people capture stories, memories, voices, and messages that matter. It preserves family history, personal legacy, and human connection in a way that’s easy, secure, and meaningful.
Who is The Human Archive for?
Anyone who wants to save the moments and stories that often disappear:
- Families wanting to preserve memories
- Care homes and wellbeing staff
- Parents capturing messages for future generations
- Individuals documenting their own legacy
- Teams and communities wanting to record culture and identity
If it’s human, it belongs in the archive.
How does it work?
You click to add a memory, record by writing, talking and adding photos, and save it to your personal archive. Each recording is stored safely, and can be shared with The Human Archive or only with the people you choose.
Is it easy for older relatives to use?
Yes. The app was intentionally designed with large buttons, simple flows, and clear instructions so older adults and people with limited tech experience can use it confidently. They can also assign you to be a nominated person to add memories on their behalf, anytime, anywhere.
What makes The Human Archive different from just using a phone’s voice recorder?
The Human Archive isn’t just a recorder, it’s a guided storytelling and biography-creating experience.
You get:
- Thoughtful prompts every day that draw out meaningful stories
- Organised, easy-to-find recordings
- A private, secure archive
- A tool built specifically for legacy, memory, and connection
It helps people capture stories they’d never think to tell on their own.
Is my data secure?
Absolutely. Your recordings are encrypted, stored securely, and only shared with the people you choose. You remain in full control of your content at all times.
Can I share recordings with family and friends?
Yes. You can share individual recordings or entire collections with trusted people, even if they don’t have the app.
What kinds of things should I record?
Anything you’d want future you, or future generations, to hear:
- Childhood memories
- Stories about loved ones
- Advice or life lessons
- Messages for children or grandchildren
- Personal reflections
- Voices and laughter you never want to lose
If it matters to you, record it.
How long can recordings be?
Recordings can be as short or as long as you want. Some people record 30-second messages. Others record full conversations or life stories.
Can care homes or organisations use The Human Archive?
Yes! Many care environments use it to:
- Capture resident stories
- Support reminiscence therapy
- Strengthen relationships between staff and families
- Preserve personal identity and dignity
We also offer onboarding and staff training if needed.
What happens to my archive if something happens to me?
You can designate trusted contacts who will receive access to your archive if you choose. Your stories become part of the legacy you leave behind. If you don’t assign any trusted contact, we will keep your biography and anything you have shared will still be accessible.
Does The Human Archive work offline?
No, you need an internet connection for the app to work. If you don’t have internet or wifi connection available and it’s urgent, you can always record a normal video on your phone and upload it to The Human Archive app later.
Can I edit or delete recordings?
Yes. You’re always in control. You can rename, reorganise, or delete any recording in your archive.
Is the app free?
We offer a free tier with enough credits to make recordings and save your memories. Once those credits are used, you will be able to sign up for a subscription continue to use all of the features (extended storage, advanced sharing controls, access to time capsules, face and voice capture, video and voice memories, question of the day) are available with a subscription.
