Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it important to share stories?

When you write about your life, you gain something precious: perspective. Reflecting on your experiences can clarify your values, reveal patterns, and help you find meaning in your life journey. But the impact goes beyond you. Writing turns your experience into a lens through which others can also view and appreciate the world. Every reader who connects with your words carries a part of you forward, gaining insight, inspiration and the confidence to share their life stories with others too.

I’ve received a DM from The Human Archive Instagram page. Why have you messaged me?

Because we really like the things you post on your own page and would love to know more about you. We think you’ve got some meaningful and inspiring life stories to share and would like to give you a platform to do that.

How do I decide what to write about?

Start Small – Write a single memory that comes to mind, no matter how ordinary. What did you feel? What did you learn?

  • Ask Yourself Questions – What are the moments that shaped you? Who influenced your path? Have you ever made a decision that changed your life? What piece of advice would you like to pass on?
  • Look at a photo you treasure – What are the memories and emotions that it triggers in you?
  • Keep it short and simple – You don’t need to write a really long story. You’ll be amazed at what you can share with yourself and others in just 2-3 paragraphs.
  • Avoid making it ‘perfect’ – There’s no need to try and write a New York Times bestseller! Your story doesn’t have to be ‘perfect’ to matter. People aren’t perfect, and your writing doesn’t need to be either. Just share your own story, in your own words

What if I don’t think anyone would be interested in my story?

Trust us, you’re fascinating (even if you don’t think so). When you write about your life, you offer something profoundly human – a glimpse into your world, your struggles, your joy. You validate, educate and inspire others. We are a social species that love to understand others – to be curious is to be human. Have you ever sat around a campfire, telling stories with friends and family? If the answer is yes, you’ll already know that the content of the stories isn’t really what matters. The shared connection is.
